Having been born and bred in Tottenham, I am very weary of the area that I have been brought up in, a local event on Tottenham high road at the pub 'The Elbow Room' was the perfect event for me to attend and meet other locals.
The event was all about raising money for families that have suffered from the riots, the night was filled with raffles, music and games. It was nice to see the community all together as one and helping one another.
Network effects: Social media’s role in the London riots
When the riots happened everyone
were looking for a culprit, with some blaming Twitter and Facebook, and
others pinning the violence on BlackBerry and its instant messaging
abilities.
Malcolm Gladwell has pointed out
these kinds of riots and uprisings have been happening for centuries,
without the need for Twitter or Facebook or BlackBerry’s BBM. But while they may not cause
revolutions, there’s no question
that these kinds of mobile, real-time networks and technologies can help
to fuel them when they occur. social media tools may not be a trigger
for such events, but they can clearly act as “an accelerant.”
The difference with Twitter and Facebook is that they are always on,
and real-time in a way that even television often isn’t.

"There needs to be a transparent and thorough investigation into the
death of Mark Duggan. The IPCC needs to explain why more was not done to
reach out to Duggan’s family. And the police must explain how minor
skirmishes could spiral out of control so quickly." - David Lammy
